You can move that

  • Supporting the further development of our modeling and analysis software ecosystem through collaborative development, documentation, and adherence to best engineering practices.
  • Analysis of measurement and test data from practical applications, derivation of performance indicators, and creation of technical documentation and reports for internal use and for customers.
  • Development and application of machine learning methods to extract meaningful patterns and insights from radar datasets.
  • Assisting in the investigation of technical incidents and data anomalies to ensure system reliability and smooth operation.
  • Effective work in highly regulated, air-gapped environments while adhering to strict safety and quality standards.

This is what you bring with you

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computational Science, Computer Science, Physics, Applied Mathematics or a closely related field
  • Extensive expertise in Python for scientific computing and data analysis, with in-depth experience in relevant libraries such as NumPy, Pandas, and Matplotlib.
  • Expert in mathematical and numerical modeling of complex, dynamic systems, including handling noisy and high-dimensional data
  • Practical knowledge of machine learning frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch)
  • Good familiarity with the Linux ecosystem and initial experience with compiled languages ​​(e.g., C, C++, Rust)
  • Proven ability to quickly and independently acquire domain-specific knowledge and to translate scientific principles into practical engineering solutions.
  • Ability to find a healthy balance between intellectual curiosity and the demands of customers and companies
  • Enthusiasm for a deep dive into the world of radar data processing
  • Language skills: German at least C1, English at least C1, French is a big plus

About the area

In times of increasing geopolitical tensions and uncertainties, a country's ability to guarantee its security and sovereignty is of paramount importance. Our mission in the Engineering Sensors & Electronic Warfare department at RUAG is to support the Swiss Armed Forces in their operations by enabling continuous situational awareness.
A key component of this mission is providing reliable and robust monitoring and analysis capabilities for military air surveillance radars. To this end, we design and develop customized software tools for processing, analyzing, and visualizing the data recorded by these systems.
Our work requires a deep mathematical and physical understanding of the entire signal processing chain – from raw signal acquisition and processing to interpretation.
To support our radar engineering team, we are seeking an experienced Computational/Data Scientist with a rigorous approach.
