At the Office for Statistics and Data, we actively shape the responsible use of artificial intelligence in the Canton of Zurich. Together with the Office for Information Technology, the Human Resources Department, and the Digital Administration Unit, we develop intelligent solutions that relieve the burden on employees, improve processes, and create tangible benefits for the public and businesses.
As an AI Data Scientist, you will assume data science responsibility within the AI ​​organization along the entire process chain: from evaluating potential use cases and developing proofs of concept to implementing successful solutions. You will also share your knowledge and advise administrative units on data science issues.

You'll do this with us

  • Together with administrative units, you analyze specific challenges and examine whether and how AI can make a meaningful contribution.
  • You develop proofs of concept, for example in the areas of intelligent knowledge management, AI assistance systems, semantic search and process automation.
  • You develop prototypes and iteratively improve them based on feedback from our customers.
  • You prepare data, conduct exploratory analyses, and select suitable models and methods.
  • You systematically evaluate AI models with regard to quality, robustness, and suitability for the respective use case.
  • You will work closely with experts in computer science, architecture, data governance, data protection, information security and operations.
  • You help to efficiently, safely and sustainably transfer successful solutions into productive operation.
  • You advise administrative units on data science issues and share your knowledge in workshops, presentations and other exchange formats.
  • Together with the team, you will further develop methods, standards and working practices for the responsible use of AI.

This is what you bring with you

  • You have completed a degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics or a comparable field.
  • You have several years of professional experience in the implementation of machine learning projects, especially in the areas of natural language processing and generative AI.
  • You are a proficient Python programmer and have solid experience with common machine learning frameworks. Experience in frontend development is a plus.
  • You are familiar with methods for evaluating AI models and can critically assess results and communicate them clearly.
  • You have experience in developing prototypes and transferring data science solutions into productive operation together with IT professionals.
  • You deal responsibly with data protection, information security, fairness and other ethical issues.
  • You actively address issues, contribute your own ideas, and develop viable solutions together with the people involved.
  • You enjoy working with people as much as with AI models and data.
  • You communicate clearly, reliably, and in a manner appropriate to your audience. Your German language skills demonstrably correspond to at least level C2 in both spoken and written form. You have good English skills.
