Team Leader Data Platform & Data Warehouse

Your tasks

As Team Lead for Data Platform & Data Warehouse, you will play a central role in the further development of our data-driven business capabilities. You will lead the team technically, operationally, and in terms of personnel, ensuring the stable operation, targeted development, and successful future growth of our current SQL Server/Azure SQL-based data warehouse platform. The focus is not only on technology, but especially on the tangible added value for sales, consulting, and business management: You will work with the business units to develop data-driven solutions that increase customer proximity, improve sales opportunities, and sustainably strengthen decision-making. A key priority is the successful completion of the ongoing transformation project to replace the existing reporting system. Building on this, you will shape the next evolutionary stage of our data platform, gradually developing it from today's Azure SQL/DWH environment to future-proof platform approaches (e.g., Microsoft Fabric or Databricks). In doing so, you will strategically build the necessary expertise within the team. The organizational anchoring in the Competence Center for Consulting & Sales underlines the claim that data and analytics contribute directly to value creation in customer business.

  • You lead the data team and strategically develop their skills, from classic DWH/SQL competencies to data platform skills (Azure, Fabric, Databricks, Lakehouse).
  • You are responsible for the stability, further development and delivery of the existing SQL Server / Azure SQL platform, while simultaneously ensuring its evolutionary development.
  • You will successfully lead the ongoing transformation project (replacing the reporting system) to completion and lay the foundation for the next platform generation.
  • You will further develop our Data Vault 2.0 architecture and set standards for data modeling, integration, testing, and deployment.
  • You define the target architecture and roadmap of a future-proof, scalable data platform with a clear perspective towards hybrid DWH/lakehouse approaches (e.g. Fabric / Databricks)
  • You identify and prioritize data-driven use cases along the value chain (especially sales, consulting, marketing and management).
  • You ensure that data products deliver measurable business impact (e.g., better customer targeting, higher conversion rates, more efficient processes).
  • You work closely with the specialist departments and translate business needs into scalable, sustainable solutions.

Our requirements

  • Solid experience with DWH platforms (SQL Server / Azure SQL) as well as practical experience with Databricks and/or Microsoft Fabric
  • Experience in the further development of existing data platforms into scalable, future-proof architectures (e.g. Lakehouse)
  • Proven experience in transforming established data warehouse and reporting landscapes into modern platform architectures
  • Ability to consistently derive technological decisions from business benefits and value creation
  • Several years of management experience in the data environment (technical and/or personnel)
  • Outcome-oriented work and leadership style, as well as the ability to lead teams through challenging transformation phases.
  • In-depth understanding of cross-platform data architectures (e.g., Azure SQL, DWH, Fabric, Databricks)
  • Experience in building and developing data platform competencies (skills, methods, governance)
  • Understanding end-to-end data value creation – from data input to business impact
  • Knowledge in related fields such as marketing, CDP, AI/ML or data governance is an advantage.
  • Very good German skills

You don't primarily think in terms of technology, but in terms of business value.
