Your tasks

Machine Learning & AI: You will develop machine learning models and AI applications, and be responsible for their evaluation up to technical acceptance. Using our AI platform, you will prepare your solutions so that they can be seamlessly integrated into production.

Software Engineering: You will work closely with experts from various areas of administration to develop feasibility studies for the use of AI. In doing so, you will identify valuable potential and actively shape the digital transformation.

Monitor trends in Generative AI: You stay on top of the latest developments in GenAI and LLMs. You evaluate new key technologies for their relevance and ensure that modern AI approaches are used profitably and with a future-oriented approach in public administration.

Your profile

Experience: Data science is your field and you are proficient in Python. You have experience in developing machine learning models. You are experienced in using GenAI and understand its strengths and technological limitations for use in public administration.

Personality: You enjoy working on diverse projects with varying thematic focuses. You complete your tasks responsibly and efficiently. You are proactive and communicative. Teamwork inspires you.

Education: You have a completed Master's degree with a quantitative focus.

Language skills: You have in-depth knowledge of Python and TypeScript and are proficient in modern methods such as Docker and CI/CD. You also have practical experience with deep learning frameworks like PyTorch.

The Statistical Office is part of the Presidential Department and serves as the statistics and data competence center for the Canton of Basel-Stadt. Operating independently and according to scientific principles, it provides up-to-date statistical information and delivers reliable services to the public and government. By publishing open government data, it contributes to transparency in government actions. It shapes data management within the canton and advocates for efficient data flows and effective data governance.
The Data Competence Center at the Statistical Office is responsible for the use of artificial intelligence. Its remit also includes managing the office for open government data. The work of the Data Competence Center has a public impact. We publish the source code of our applications as open source on GitHub at https://github.com/DCC-BS.
