Your work will contribute to ensuring that data from diverse sources can be efficiently integrated, reliably processed, and made usable in a modern, code-based production environment.

Your tasks

In this key position, you will actively shape the connection between raw data, modern data science methods, and data-driven decision-making in politics, business, and society. You will systematize the entire data process, from automated data preparation and analytical processing to dynamic provision and seamless version control. In doing so, you will create the technological foundation upon which our data products are developed efficiently, transparently, and with the highest quality.

  • You systematically build and develop the ETL process for external data and ensure stable and, where possible, automated operation.
  • You connect data sources via interfaces such as APIs and databases and integrate the data into our data warehouse.
  • You transform and harmonize data sets to a consistently high quality and ensure that data flows are traceable, maintainable and reproducible.
  • You will help to further develop our production landscape and create the technical foundations for a seamless, code-based manufacturing of statistical products.
  • Together with the IT and data science team, you will design, implement, and operate modern production and publication methods based on open-source data science frameworks (SQL, R, Quarto, etc.). You will also help build the necessary infrastructure for version control and automated deployment.
  • You will work closely with data scientists and specialists, contributing to ensuring that analyses can be created consistently using code and in a reproducible manner.
  • You will take on the role of Open Data Coordinator for LUSTAT.

Your profile

  • You have a university degree in computer science, data engineering, data science, statistics, or a related quantitative field.
  • You have good knowledge of SQL and experience with technologies for versioned and automated data production.
  • You bring experience in the setup, operation and further development of data pipelines or ETL processes.
  • You are familiar with the integration of heterogeneous data sources and have a good understanding of data models, data management and automated production processes.
  • You can combine technical requirements with professional needs and develop practical solutions together with internal stakeholders.
  • You work in a structured, independent and solution-oriented manner and enjoy questioning and further developing existing processes.

The statistics office collects and analyzes data from the Canton of Lucerne and its municipalities and makes this information available to the public in a user-friendly format. It also offers individual, fee-based services. These include expert and methodological consultations, special analyses, overviews, scenarios, and model calculations.
