Available immediately or by arrangement, for a fixed term of 6 months, with the option to extend up to a maximum of 12 months.

Your tasks

Publicly publish data and metadata: You help us analyze government data, model it in the new cantonal data catalog, and automate its publication on I14Y.admin.ch and data.bs.ch.

Working with people and data: You use your communication skills to understand the requirements and wishes of our diverse stakeholders; you outline solutions and help to model them in the data catalog as a team, and code pipelines with AI in Python.

Analyze, understand, model, publish: Your flair for data analysis is in demand to understand data and represent it in models. You maintain an overview of the relationships, customer needs, and public expectations.

Your profile

Experience: You are interested in data modeling and analysis with AI support, e.g., using SQL and Python. Linux/Git is nothing new to you. If you also enjoy Docker and open code, then you're a perfect fit for our motivated team.

Personality: You enjoy working flexibly on diverse tasks and are interested in many things, including new ones. You are keen to take responsibility for sub-projects. You enjoy independent programming and are outgoing.

Education: Ideally, you have a master's degree. Interest in or initial experience in data engineering or application development, for example with conventional databases, is also extremely valuable to us.

Language: You enjoy communicating and are good at communicating in German, both orally and in writing.

An insight into our work

The Statistical Office is part of the Presidential Department and serves as the statistics and data competence center for the Canton of Basel-Stadt. Operating independently and according to scientific principles, it provides up-to-date statistical information and delivers reliable services to the public and government. By publishing open government data, it contributes to transparency in government actions. It shapes data management within the canton and advocates for efficient data flows and effective data governance.
The DCC Data Competence Center, as part of the Statistical Office, is responsible for maintaining the data catalog and publishing open government data (OGD) at https://data.bs.ch. The Statistical Office employs approximately 45 highly motivated data experts with broad knowledge of all aspects of data: acquisition, processing, storage, modeling and maintenance, methodology, and the visualization and publication of statistical information. There is a growing demand for data-driven services for planning, management, and information, which we provide internally.
