The common goal is the development of innovative diagnostics and therapies and their rapid implementation for the patient. The clinic and faculty employ around 13,700 people and are involved in training and qualification. In more than 50 clinical departments with almost 2,000 beds, around 80,000 patients are treated as inpatients and part-time inpatients and more than 1,000,000 outpatients a year. Together with the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) and the German Cancer Aid, the Heidelberg University Hospital has established the National Center for Tumor Diseases (NCT) Heidelberg, the leading oncological center in Germany. In addition, the Heidelberg University Hospital, together with the DKFZ and the University of Heidelberg, operates the Hopp Children's Cancer Center (KiTZ), a therapy and research center for oncological and hematological diseases in children and adolescents that is unique in Germany. The Heidelberg Curriculum Medicinale (HeiCuMed) is at the top of medical training courses in Germany. There are currently around 3,500 prospective doctors studying or doing their doctorate at the Heidelberg Medical Faculty.
