BERNMOBIL - Städtische Verkehrsbetriebe Bern

The red trams and buses characterize Bern's cityscape, as do the world-famous Zytglogge Tower and the arcades. BERNMOBIL has been an independent public-law institution since 1998 and is fully owned by the city of Bern. In 1890 the first tram ran from Bärengraben to the station. Since then, the offer has developed massively: Today, BERNMOBIL transports over 100 million passengers a year on 5 tram lines, 3 trolley lines and 19 bus lines. Thanks to the dense route network and the 6-minute timetable for the tram and main bus lines, public transport in the city of Bern has the highest share of total traffic at 46%. Our modern tram and bus fleet is consistently low-floor and handicapped accessible, real-time information in the vehicles and at the stops is standard. Trams and trolleybuses run on CO2-neutral hydroelectric power, and almost two-thirds of the bus fleet is powered by environmentally friendly natural gas and biogas. As a traditional and efficient transport company, BERNMOBIL offers customer-oriented and reliable transport with local public transport in the city and agglomeration of Bern.
