About this opportunity
Ericsson is involved in the design, implementation, integration, testing and operation of many complex telecom solutions. These solutions are composed of many network functions and other systems operating as application software running on virtualized and cloud-native infrastructure environments, using IP-based protocols for inter-system communication, transported over advanced IP internetworking and switching network infrastructure.
The accurate implementation and operation of these solutions requires the development of advanced tools to automate and optimize the execution of the associated tasks across the many different systems and the different domains encompassed by the end-to-end solution.
In fact, these automation tools have become a crucial part of the whole telecom ecosystem and now represent a very important component to address the increasing complexity and diversity of the solutions being implemented and operated by Telecom Operators.
However, handling the complexity and diversity of real live telecom solution ecosystems requires investment in the development of these automation tools and ensuring their evolution in continuous improving the efficiency of delivery and operation tasks. Some examples of these are the automation of configuration management, of functional testing, of software updates and upgrades, among many others. These capabilities can even extend to the full automation of a complete new and independent network slice, spun-up by the “push of a button”.
The Junior DevOps Automation Engineer Intern will be integrated and directly involved in the team at Ericsson Switzerland developing these automation capabilities for the voice communications domain. This will be an intern position where you will work together with other DevOps engineers in fulfilling the tasks handled by the team in this area and in the production of an advanced telecom network automation ecosystem.
Key skills:
- Analytical approach and a constructive attitude
- Flexibility and ability to adapt to different situations
- Ability to work independently and act as a part of the team
- Knowledge of the Linux operating system utilization and administration
- Knowledge and experience in scripting and software programing
- Knowledge of Python, Ansible, Java, YAML, JSON
- Knowledge in the deployment and utilization of Linux applications and tools, such as Jira, Gitlab, Jenkins, Prometheus, Grafana
- Understanding of virtualization and cloud-native technologies, both on-prem and on hyperscalers (OpenStack, Kubernetes, AWS, Google Cloud, Azure).
- Familiar with telecom protocols and how they function
- Familiar with ITIL or Agile methodology
- Fluency in English at B1 level or higher, spoken and written
- Good communication skills
