For our Swiss office in Basel, we are looking for a

Machine Learning Research Associate (w/m/d)

Job summary:

  • Work with a multi-disciplinary team (chemists, biologists, biophysicists) to discover novel medicines for challenging disease targets
  • Participate in drug design meetings, bringing specific design ideas and data to influence decisions
  • Build state of the art machine learning infrastructure and workflows for molecular design
  • Apply machine learning techniques to real-world drug discovery problems
  • Identify and develop novel cheminformatics approaches to overcome critical drug discovery bottlenecks
  • Work closely with bench scientists to understand critical project bottlenecks and how machine learning can help
  • Analyze SAR data to provide informed view on property space and activity across assays
  • Apply multi-parameter optimization (MPO) techniques (including off-target selectivity and DMPK)


  • Master's degree in computer science, statistics, mathematics, physics or engineering
  • Minimum of 3 years machine learning experience
  • Demonstrated track record in team-based projects
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to conduct independent research
  • Experience in one or more modern general purpose programming languages (C++, Python, Scala)
  • Experience in building production machine learning systems (e.g. readable and reproducible code with appropriate unit tests and modern software design principles)

Additional desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience with at least one modern Deep Neural Network package (Tensorflow, Theano, Keras, Pytorch)
  • Experience with Bayesian optimization or other black-box techniques
  • Experience in working with biological data sets (e.g. assays, DNA, RNASeq, Mass Spec.)
  • Experience in working with version control
