Job Description

The Institute of Primary Health Care of the University of Bern (BIHAM) is dedicated to train and foster the next generation of primary care physicians and to carry out research in primary health care, pharmacy, epidemiology, and public health. The BIHAM offers a lively, interdisciplinary environment with excellent methodological support and access to a large network of practicing primary care physicians

Duties and responsibilities

  • Develop own research lines and obtain peer-review grants
  • Design and conduct statistical analyses from large dataset using complex statistical methods
  • Supervise young and senior health researchers for statistical analyses
  • Write or help writing research protocols and manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals
  • Coordination of team workflow and participation to the recruitment of new team members
  • Possibility of teaching

Qualifications and skills

  • Highly motivated with a strong expertise in biostatistics, including in the conduction of multivariate analyses and meta-analyses, using statistical software (Stata, R, ...)
  • University degree in (bio)statistics (PhD or MSc) or any training considered as equivalent (e.g. PhD in epidemiology with a strong training in statistics)
  • Good knowledge of epidemiology concepts
  • Publications in peer-reviewed journals; peer-review grants as an advantage
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills and excellent organizational skills.
  • High level of English proficiency
  • Fluency in German and French is an advantage

Part of the activity (up to 20%) will be done at the Population Health Laboratory (#PopHealthLab) of the University of Fribourg under the guidance of Prof Arnaud Chiolero, with access to the Swiss School of Public Health (SSPH+) network and activities.

Starting date is negotiable. The salary is based on training and experience, according to the university regulations.
