Job Description

Career Area:

Information Analytics

Job Description:

Aftermarket Data Analyst.

This is an ideal role for an experienced Data Analyst looking for the next step in their career or recent Graduate with strong analytical skills looking for an opportunity to begin a long and rewarding career within a Globally recognised brand.

In Aftermarket Analytics, we support services growth by leveraging a data-driven understanding of dealer and customer services behaviors.

The team’s core project – Lens - is a data-driven approach which translates dealer-to-customer aftermarket invoices data (lists of parts) into the actual component and repair which was performed, as well as the most likely piece of equipment which benefited from the repair. This helps to better understand and leverage service (repair/maintenance) customer and dealer behaviors.

The value of this project is determined by its coverage (components and repairs), its quality (accuracy and confidence) and as importantly by its alignment to the services growth agenda. That implies managing a complex network of stakeholders from product groups, component groups, services development teams, distribution (service operations) to sales execution teams and dealerships.

Job Duties

Caterpillar uses quantitative techniques to solve problems. Typical problems include maximizing OPACC through improvements in Inventory Costs, Material Costs, NPI costs, etc; determining the principal drivers of health care costs; recommending the optimal supplier for a part; identifying sales, rental, and service opportunities for Caterpillar dealers; and developing simulation/optimization capabilities to model a new facility or product feature. In addition, analytics professionals also provide assistance to high-profile enterprise-wide projects such as the Engineered Value Chain.

The principal responsibility of this entry level Data Analyst position is to learn and assist: to gain an understanding of Caterpillar’s business, products, systems and procedures; to learn and develop skills which result from the practical application of basic analytical knowledge; and to provide assistance to a project team or others in the work group. Projects will usually be of short duration and work results will affect those working on the same project or assignment. Typically, decisions will impact routine, low risk issues that may affect the project team, suppliers or internal customers.

Key areas of responsibility encountered in this role may include any or all of the following: locating and obtaining data from various internal and external sources; collecting Critical Customer Requirements; applying associated digital technologies; communicating with internal customers, team members, and stake holders; answering routine requests for information; and providing support to the teams on which he or she serves.

Work is closely directed by a project team leader and supervisor, with regular reviews and updates.

The Information Scientist I demonstrates knowledge and ability to handle basic issues independently. He or she demonstrates very good communication skills and initiative, and an emerging knowledge of Caterpillar Inc., its products and services, and its customers.
