In Category Mid-Receiver Units, we source and operate logistical units, predominantly located close to suppliers, which consolidate small shipments to full loads, at the right place, at the right time and at the right cost. We work within one of the most dynamic area of logistics, one in which innovation and technology advances force us to continuously get better. To support and develop further our business, we are currently looking for a Category Operations Leader to join our team in Pratteln, Switzerland.

About the job

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated person to help us to be leaders in delivering excellent performance, proudly serving happy IKEA customers. Our team’s objective is to design and implement warehousing solutions and strategies with focus on total supply chain cost whilst fulfilling defined service levels related to logistics capacity, operational excellence, and sustainability. As a Category Operations Leader you will lead and participate in strategic and tactical development initiatives and projects to secure the business objectives according to the relevant IKEA strategic direction and Category Mid-Receiver Unit’s business plan. You will provide intelligence and technical support, as well as quality standards governing the sourcing, development and execution of contracts and services. Furthermore, you will contribute to the total value chain (cost out agenda) by leading the operations and competence development in the Category in all respects. You will have a global assignment focusing on the Logistics Service Provider’s performance development with an end to end approach. In this role you will report to the Category Manager Mid-Receiver Units.

Your assignment as a Category Operations Leader in Mid-Receiver Units includes:

  • Together with the Category Manager define the Category’s operations agenda based on the respective directions and priorities
  • Take lead in the development of new concepts, tools and ways of working to support a sustainable Logistics Service Provider management and development
  • Develop and/or initiate innovations within logistics (process and product perspective; investigate new technologies and solutions; support the implementation and secure needed competence)
  • Responsible for working methods, education packages and other steering documents; support and guide the business teams within the Category
  • Develop, analyse and follow-up KPIs of the Category Mid-Receiver Units’ on regular basis, on various dimensions; define, formulate, and address improvement needed, inter-dependencies, synergies, trends and directions in business development
  • Participate in procurement events (pre- & post procurement phase, preparation, and analysis)
  • Participate in external forums/networks, to be up to date with trends in the industry; support the Category’s business development with business and market intelligence
  • Develop and implement relevant sourcing tools
  • Lead or contribute to projects or global assignments; connect and collaborate with different internal and external stakeholders and partners

  • You are proficient in data analytics and have hands on experience in supporting business decision making and driving improvement through data intelligence
  • You are highly skilled in using computer and specific programs related to analysis, communication and business presentations
  • You feel comfortable with leading projects in a global dimension with strong project management skills
  • You are a good communicator and can engage with audiences in both virtual and physical settings
