Your mission :
Your mission:
We are looking for a highly motivated and independent research technician, who will assist with fieldwork and data management in our project on temporary streamflow processes. You will be in charge of the installation and maintenance of our wireless sensor network and Arduino-based sensor systems in the steep Alptal research catchment near Zurich. You will occasionally assist with conducting field campaigns where we collect streamwater samples and map the flowing stream channels. Most of the field work will take place in the Alptal catchment, but field work can also occasionally take place near Lausanne in the Haute-Mentue catchment. Field work will be regular during the field season from May to October and can sometimes last several days. In addition, you will read out data loggers and import data into our database. You will perform initial data cleaning using software like R, Python or similar.

  • Maintenance of wireless sensor system (Decentlab GmbH) and Arduino-based sensor systems, every 1-2 weeks, maintenance of meteorological station hardware and software
  • Installation of new instruments and animal protection in the field
  • Assistance with sampling and mapping campaigns
  • Post-processing and management of large data sets

Your profile :
Your profile:

  • Interest in hydrology, hydrogeology and/or water quality
  • Training in environmental sciences, and/or environmental engineering is desired
  • BSc or MSc degree
  • Competences in numerical software (Matlab, or JMP...) and/or programing languages (R, Python, C++, or ...)
  • Good orientation and condition in steep and forested terrain
  • Proficiency in English
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Valid Swiss work permit
  • You should live in the region of Zürich to regularly conduct field work in the nearby Alptal catchment.
