Biochemistry Technician in the physics institute for protein cloning, cell cultures, and protein purification

Your mission :
We have a technician opening to support biochemistry research in the LBEM.

The laboratory of biological electron microscopy (LBEM) is studying membrane and soluble proteins by cryo-electron microscopy. We are looking for a biochemist to organize the shared wetlab of the biophysics groups, and to support the cloning, expression, purification and biophysical characterization of proteins.

Your profile :
Candidates should have an education in biology or chemistry (MSc or PhD). Experience in organizing and maintaining a biochemistry wetlab is welcome, as well as experience in:

  • Designing constructs for protein production in bacterial, insect and mammalian cells.
  • Molecular cloning, including introduction of single mutations and homologous recombination.
  • Protein production in bacterial, insect and mammalian cells, including DNA transfection, cell culture and pellet collection.
  • Protein purification for the use in structure determination, including membrane protein purification.

We offer :
The EPFL ranks among the world’s top scientific universities. It is located in Lausanne in Switzerland, a beautiful, vibrant and highly international city on the shores of scenic Lake Geneva, situated within an Alpine setting in the heart of Europe. French is the main language spoken in the city of Lausanne, while English is the main language at the EPFL and in our laboratory. EPFL is committed to being an equal opportunity employer.

The successful candidate will join a vibrant, collaborative, international, and diverse research team with interdisciplinary expertise in biology, physics, computer science and engineering. The focus of research activity at the LBEM is centered around neurodegeneration and method development in cryo-EM. The LBEM is a newly established research lab at the Institute of Physics at the EPFL.
