Job Description

The Early Biomarker Development Oncology (EBDO) Team is responsible for identification and validation of candidate molecular biomarkers used for demonstration of pharmacodynamic effects and mechanism-of-action, as well as for response prediction and patient selection / stratification in early clinical trials. The EBDO Team supports the whole oncology portfolio and closely interacts with Discovery and Early Clinical Development.

As a Computational Pathology Scientist, you are part of the Digital Pathology team within EBDO and are responsible for developing digital pathology and spatial analysis approaches to support the tissue biomarker strategy across Oncology projects. You generate key insights from tissue data to support drug development decision making.

Key Responsibilities

  • You are part of a cross-functional Digital Pathology team to be at the forefront of tissue biomarker research for Oncology

  • You are an expert on analysis of tumor tissue and its application to Drug Development, including Digital Pathology and multi-dimensional analysis

  • You work alongside pathologists to develop machine learning algorithm prototypes

  • You propose image-derived data analysis to answer scientific questions

  • You use your expertise to guide and challenge the use of tissue biomarkers

  • You lead external academic partnerships and internal collaborations as they relate to biomarker algorithm development

  • You scout innovative technologies and interact with stakeholders to advise on imaging related analysis and workflows.


  • You have a PhD in the field of image analysis, biomedical imaging, biomedical data science, statistics, machine learning, or computer vision, with experience in deep learning, image analysis and analysis of image derived data, and a strong publication record.

  • With at least 5 years of professional experience in Research and Development

  • Experience in developing digital tissue analysis techniques for immuno-histochemistry, multiplex immuno-fluorescence, and spatial-omics approaches

  • Experience and interest in developing cutting edge digital pathology approaches are required.


  • Expertise in the discovery, development and utilization of biomarkers and biomarker technologies

  • Previous knowledge in the field of Oncology/ cancer biology (preferred)

  • Expertise in tissue biomarkers, including digital pathology, image analysis and data analysis

  • Proficient in programming languages such as Python, Matlab, R, C++
