Technical Research Scientist (m/f/d)

We are currently looking for a Technical Research Scientist to join our research team in Stein AG, Switzerland. As a member of the team you will play an important role in developing chemical & biological solutions that support plants to mitigate abiotic stress (e.g. drought) and to secure yield. Research on crop plants is conducted in greenhouses and controlled climate chambers at our research site in Stein (Canton of Aargau, close to Basel and the borders of Germany and France).

Your responsibilities:

• Plan and carry out experiments with crop plants with high accuracy and with minimal supervision in the lab, climate chamber and greenhouse for Crop Enhancement / Abiotic Stress Management (CE / ASM) Research Biology
• Implement new methods and perform experiments using state of the art chemical application and plant phenotyping systems
• Lead and actively support the cultivation, maintenance and care of plants
• Capturing, analyzing and reporting of plant phenotype data related to abiotic stress mitigation
• Communicate widely with team members, peers and experiment requesters
• Active collaboration in scientific and operational cross-functional / cross indication activities and projects
• Support projects and run complex testing and analysis
• Employ own scientific know-how in order to define and carry out experiments and solve problems as they arise
• Fully responsible to independently plan and execute complex series of experiments or equivalent tasks
• Document experiments and test results, contribute to reports and propose appropriate follow up actions

Qualifications

What are we looking for:

• A Bachelor/Master degree or a completed professional training related to Plant Science, Biology or Agronomy
• Practical experience in plant cultivation and phenotyping of minimum 1 year
• Familiarity with laboratory, glasshouse and climate chamber working environments
• Knowledge in plant biology (preferentially crop physiology and abiotic stress tolerance)
• Open for routine work, including outdoor (e.g. pot filling, pot weighing, sowing, watering, maintaining)
• Fluent English skills mandatory, German is an advantage
• Ability to understand scientific publications in the field of plant physiology and agronomy
• Physical fitness to conduct experiments, e.g. to handle heavy pots with plants
• No strong allergy against pollen (especially against wheat, rice or corn) that would prevent working with flowering crop plants
