Job Description

We are a dynamic team of nine technicians and scientists from the core facility of the Translational Research Unit (TRU) of the Institute of Pathology, University of Bern. We provide tissue-based services for researchers and use innovative technologies to support translational projects conducted on human and animal tissues. We collaborate with researchers from the University of Bern and participate in national and international projects. Our portfolio includes histopathology services, establishment of methods for tissue "visualization", digital pathology and image analysis and next-generation Tissue Microarraying ( We support research further by providing access to patient material through our certified biobank partner facility, Tissue Bank Bern (TBB).

Your main tasks are

  • to act as deputy to the Head of TRU
  • to coordinate the inner workings of TRU, including the administrative, scientific, innovative and collaborative aspects and participate in data extraction and data management
  • to participate actively in the lab's innovation and development

You will also participate in

  • detailing collaboration and service agreements, MTAs/DTAs with academia and industry
  • educating researchers on ethics for tissue-based studies
  • supporting researchers during grant preparation (feasibility / budgetary assessments)

We are looking for someone

  • with a true interest in science and research
  • with a PhD in a related medical field or a medical degree
  • who is excited about innovation in the field of personalized medicine (and pathology)
  • who can communicate succinctly and clearly with researchers from academia and industry
  • who has at least 3-years of experience managing a team in a related field
  • who is fluent in spoken and written German (at least B2 level) and English
