Actuarial Data Scientist



Key duties and responsibilities

Expand SGPC’s treaty analytical toolkit (PANEL, PEAK) including

  • Develop the code, support actuarial testing and maintenance of the tools, enhancing automated flow of information for analytics.
  • Develop data analyses and visualizations supporting the pricing and underwriting functions
  • Maintain and streamline dataflows into the Pricing Analtics database (PANEL)
  • Expand the team’s scope into Specialty Insurance and Cat Analytics
  • Collaborate with the pricing community worldwide to develop and implement new ideas and contribute to the documentation inventory of the tools, become an enabler
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to ensure direct user feedback and findings from various sources are used to further enhance the systems.

Support Pricing Analytics and Reporting team in the co-ordination of global projects

  • Produce analytics and reports for different stakeholders post renewal and during renewal
  • Manage global projects or pro-actively support them
  • Coordinate with other stakeholders the design of the shared data, for instance with Underwriting, Planning, Finance, Reserving, Risk Management, and other functions
  • Develop an understanding of common fields and bases for comparisons between Pricing, Underwriting and Finance

Advance Statistical Modeling and Data Management Capabilities in the Analytics Team

  • Develop and maintain statistical models related to portfolio profitability
  • Partner with other disciplines within SGPC to develop use cases to improve operating efficiencies
  • Participate in initiatives related to data capture and engineering to steer data available for model creation and reporting

Participate in other ad-hoc project work

  • Support local pricing resources during busy renewal period
  • Support various global pricing projects and communicate efficiently with local pricing teams

Required experience & competencies

Required Experience

  • Sound working knowledge with R, Python, Git and SQL and data visualization packages.
  • Experience with Domino and Databricks platforms a plus
  • Excellent technical capabilities in statistical programming
  • Quantitative background, actuarial qualification is preferred
  • Up to 5 years of experience in insurance / reinsurance
  • Experience of applying data science technologies in business
