Are you passionate about data engineering and want to contribute your expertise not only to exciting research projects but also to teaching? Then you've come to the right place!
To strengthen our team and help us establish our new location in Basel Dreispitz, we are looking for a dedicated and innovative individual with a strong background in data engineering. We offer a wide range of tasks in teaching, research, and development – ​​with considerable creative freedom.
The tasks include:
In teaching:
  • Module responsibility in data engineering-specific courses in the Bachelor's programs in Computer Science, Data Science, MAS Data Science, and, as required, in other programs.
  • Participation in basic modules of the bachelor's programs in computer science and data science.
  • Teaching in core modules of the Master of Science in Engineering (MSE), particularly with a focus on data engineering, distributed data platforms and data-driven systems.
  • Supervision of student projects at Bachelor's and Master's level, particularly on topics such as data infrastructure, data integration, and real-time data processing.
In research and development:
  • Further development and profiling of the Data Engineering department at the institute, with the possibility of establishing our own research group with mid-level staff at our new location.
  • Development and research of innovative approaches in the areas of data pipelines, data integration, streaming technologies, cloud data platforms and their integration with HPC and AI applications.
  • Acquisition, implementation and management of application-oriented R&D projects in cooperation with industrial partners and funding institutions.
  • Technical and personnel management in the research area.
  • Active participation in the strategic development of the institute and the University of Computer Science.

Your profile:

  • University degree with a doctorate in computer science, data science or a related field.
  • Profound experience in databases and data engineering, ideally with project management experience in industry.
  • Willingness to acquire projects and network with relevant actors in research and practice.
  • Qualification in higher education teaching or willingness to acquire this within the framework of the professorship.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills as well as high social and personal competence.
  • Interest in innovative learning methods and the further development of study programs and research structures.
