Machine Learning Engineer (100%)

We are seeking a talented and driven Machine Learning Engineer to join MDPI’s Data Intelligence (DI) Team. The DI team is dedicated to developing a cutting-edge data intelligence platform designed to enhance data-driven decision-making and operational efficiency. Our platform integrates data from multiple sources, providing actionable insights into company performance, market dynamics, and emerging trends. In this role, you will primarily collaborate with the DI team, composed of senior and junior data scientists, while also engaging with the AI and Data Engineering teams to leverage a shared microservices-based infrastructure.

Tasks & Responsibilities

As a Machine Learning Engineer at MDPI, you will be responsible for:

• Platform Development: Contribute to the development of the Data Intelligence platform, designed to centralize data and provide advanced performance analysis, trend alerting systems, and market insights to support data-driven decision-making across the organization.
• Team Collaboration: Work closely with the AI and Data Engineering teams to support a shared, modular system architecture, ensuring a flexible and scalable environment for machine learning and data analytics applications.
• Model Integration: Support the integration of machine learning models into the platform. This includes building APIs to deliver model outputs to a frontend interface developed in frameworks like Vue, React, or Next.js.
• Data-Driven Solutions: Develop, deploy, and optimize machine learning models that align with strategic goals, such as monitoring market trends, supporting journal performance analysis, and forecasting key business metrics.
• Advanced Engineering Features: Contribute to the creation of innovative platform features, such as automated alert systems and tools for advanced data analysis, designed to uncover insights that inform MDPI’s strategic objectives.

Requirements

• Education: Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Data Science, Machine Learning, or a related field.
• Experience: 5+ years of experience in machine learning or data engineering, with a track record of deploying models into production.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in Python; experience with frameworks such as FastAPI and strong familiarity with data engineering tools (e.g., Airflow, Docker, Kubernetes) and microservices-based architecture. Engineering skills in deploying scalable, containerized applications and managing orchestration with Kubernetes are particularly valued.
• Frontend Development (Preferred): Experience with front-end technologies such as Vue.js, React, or Next.js is a plus, particularly for integrating model results into an intuitive user interface.
• Data Science & NLP: Strong understanding of NLP techniques, time series analysis, and predictive modelling.
• Collaboration and Communication: Proven ability to work effectively across teams, especially in data engineering, analytics, and AI-focused environments.
• Problem-Solving: Demonstrated skill in analyzing complex data problems and developing impactful solutions. Project Management: Familiarity with Agile and Scrum methodologies, with experience using project management tools.
